
Work as a guide for Backcountry Found!
Requirements:
- Lead Guide: Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and CPR certifications
- Assistant Guide: Wilderness First Aid (WFA) and CPR certifications
- Extensive backpacking and/or outdoor experience (Two references required)
- Leadership Certification or Training (Pending Backcountry Found approval)
- Completion of the Backcountry Found Guide Certification Course (GCC) - potential guides may take the Survival Skills or
GCC at a reduced rate (50% OFF standard rate) with signed contract indicating they will lead or assist guide on at least one
Backcountry Found trip during the following backpacking season.
Description of Duties:
- Trip Preparation – Every Guide will familiarize themselves will each trip route they guide on. Additionally, each guide will be
familiar with the park, forest or wilderness area that the trip is to occur in. Trip preparation also includes the preparation
and/or familiarization of gear, meals, paperwork and participants (i.e. special medical needs/conditions/allergies, etc.)
- On the trail – The Lead Guide will position him/herself at the front of the participants at all times. The Assistant Guide will
position him/herself at the rear of the participants at all times. Both guides will stay with the participants at all times.
- At the campsite – Guides will be required to cook, wash dishes, assist in the setting up of camp, building of a campfire (if
necessary and allowed) and the execution of nighttime activities/entertainment.
- First Aid – Each Guide will ensure the functioning and supply of a first aid kit and will assist in any injury or illness as
required or to the limit of their abilities.
- After the completion of each trip, guides will be required to receive, clean and ensure proper function of all returned gear
from participants.
Become a Backcountry Found Affiliate Guide!
Do you have extensive guiding experience and want to work for yourself guiding in places like Yosemite, the Grand Canyon or
Joshua Tree? Would you like to guide, but don't have the time or resources to acquire all the necessary commercial permits and
insurance requirements? Then being a Backcountry Found affiliate guide might be for you!
Basically, you are your own boss! You have your own guiding procedures, guides (if required), website and even company name (if
you like). You find your own clients and keep the majority of the participant fees. In exchange for the use of the Backcountry Found
National Park Permits (Presently including Yosemite, the Grand Canyon and Joshua Tree), Liability Insurance, Workman's
Compensation and more, Backcountry Found ONLY requires between 12 and 15% of the total fees received per trip.
