Whether you're interested in learning skills to survive in the wilderness or would like to work as an actual backpacking guide this
course is for you!
Our Wilderness Survival Skills workshops can teach you important lessons on how to survive -and thrive--in the great outdoors. Our
six-day workshop starts with our Wilderness First Aid certification program, and then moves on to inform participants about the
essentials of backpacking: how to choose the proper gear, prepare meals, avoid bears, and leave a "clean" campsite behind. Other
crucial skills this workshop includes are how to navigate different types of terrain, start a fire, purify water, build a shelter, find edible
food in the wild, and much more (See details below).
Beyond that, if you've ever been interested in working as a backpacking guide you can attend this course as a Guide Certification
Course (GCC) and, if eligible, you will be able to work for Backcountry Found leading backpacking in trips! Potential guides may take
the Survival Skills or GCC at a reduced rate (50% OFF standard rate) with signed contract indicating they will lead or assist guide on
at least one trip during the following backpacking season. For more information on becoming a guide CLICK HERE.

"One of the great philosophers is thought to have remarked, "Any fool can be uncomfortable" - probably after a washed-out camping holiday. Whether attempting to dry out your bedding on a rainsoaked campsite, or trying to stay alive after some unexpected disaster, it helps immeasurably to know the basic principles of outdoor like. These include how tents and shelters are erected, choosing or making sleeping bags and beds, building a fire, and preventing or treating blisters and other health complaints. Understanding more specialized principles of survival, such as safe navigation across different types of terrain, or water purification, is as interesting and useful to recreational users as it is vital and life saving to those unfortunate enough to become 'survivors.'" - The Complete Wilderness Training Book by Hugh McManners
